CORE

Volunteer part of your summer to help make this ministry possible!

The CORE program provides challenging opportunities to help young men (ages 15-19) develop a strong work ethic and allows the rewarding experience of seeing young people's lives changed!

For over fifty years the Lord has allowed the Bill Rice Ranch to be a help to young people through the preaching of God's Word. The camp atmosphere provides an excellent opportunity for revival preaching to do a work in the hearts of campers of all ages. Each summer the Bill Rice Ranch needs a number of young men to help make this ministry possible.

Young men in the CORE program help to meet the operational needs of the Ranch. They help primarily in the dining hall and occasionally around other areas of the campground. All jobs are well supervised under the leadership of our camp staff.

SESSION I
June 3-June 30, 2012

SESSION II
June 30-August 3, 2012

All CORE workers must apply for a position and come on a voluntary basis. The Ranch provides room, board, weekend activities, and a $15 expense allowance each week. The $15 expense allowance will help cover the cost of laundry and the Sunday afternoon meal. There is also an optional meal on Saturday, where each young man may choose to eat in town.

To request an application packet with more information, email your name and mailing address to: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

(Note: CORE tends to fill up rather quickly.  It is generally best to apply in the fall in order to be accepted for the following summer.)

  • Serve in a full-time ministry setting

  • Work alongside other dedicated teenagers

  • Grow spiritually

  • Acquire leadership and people skills

  • Develop strong work ethic

Work schedules revolve around meal times, leaving gaps of free time in the morning and afternoon.  During most afternoons, participants can either rest or get involved in the special activities and swim times provided for campers.  There will also be opportunities for recreational activities on the weekends. These would include swimming, free time at the game room, and sometimes organized sports as well other activities both on and off the Ranch.

Work itself will include setting up for each meal, helping things run smoothly during meal times, and cleaning up the Dining Hall and kitchen after each meal is complete.  Typically, job assignments within the Dining Hall are on a weekly rotation, allowing CORE volunteers to help in a variety of areas during their time at the Ranch.

Young men in the CORE program enjoy staying in a cabin with one of our summer staff counselors. This provides great opportunities to spend time with their counselors and to build friendships with campers from across the country.

  • Campers’ lives changed

  • Personal spiritual growth

  • Answered prayers

  • Souls saved

  • Joy in serving others

  • Eternal rewards

Not only are the CORE volunteers a tremendous help to the Ranch, but also the Ranch experience can be a tremendous help to them personally.  In the evenings, they are able to be a part of the great revival services held here at the Ranch each camp week. They will find the practical, straight forward Bible preaching to be both a challenge and a help as they hear godly evangelists and pastors from all over the country.

Depending on our needs and their interest, CORE volunteers may be asked to return for an entire summer to serve in a leadership capacity on operational staff.

Consider making the Summer CORE program part of your summer.  Come see what God can do when you surrender yourself and allow Him to work!

Ministry-Intern

SESSION I  - July 8-20, 2012

SESSION II - July 15-27, 2012

The Ministry Internship is a two-week program for high school graduates ages 17-20 that blends classroom instruction and hands-on experience to prepare young people for future service.

Our goal is to help interns understand not only what we do but also why we do it (our camp philosophy). Individuals who recognize the importance of this Christ-centered philosophy of ministry will be a greater help in any ministry endeavor, especially within his or her local church.

Apply for the Ministry Internship

Ministry Internship Information

In addition to the revival services held each evening, learn from daily observation and classroom instruction regarding several subjects, including:

How to...

  • Present the Gospel clearly in any situation
  • Be a successful camp counselor
  • Gain respect from young people
  • Help a youth group
  • Counsel during an invitation
  • Know God’s will for your life

Our teachers will bring years of ministry experience to each class session. Interns will come away from class times with practical insight on numerous ministry scenarios specific to camp, youth work, soul winning, and other venues of local church ministry.

Experience hands-on involvement in one of our three camp programs. Depending on availability and interest, interns can choose to serve their second week in either the Youth (ages 12-19), Junior (ages 8-12), or Deaf (ages 9-19) Camp programs. Aspects include:

  • Ministering directly to teen, junior, or deaf campers
  • Working side-by-side with youth leaders and counselors
  • Helping with camp activities
  • Hearing straightforward, Bible preaching
  • Assisting in cabin leadership

Involved in the day to day work of a counselor, interns will get to see firsthand the way God uses a week of camp in the life of a young person and the way God uses people to accomplish that work.

Applicants are only responsible for $100 of the total cost to the Ranch. This fee is broken up into two payments: a non-refundable reservation fee of $50 is due upon acceptance to the program. Then a supply fee of $50 (shirt, course notebook, handouts, etc.) is due upon arrival to the Ranch.

The actual cost of the Ministry Internship to the Ranch is $450; however, each accepted applicant need pay only $100 (includes $50 reservation fee and $50 supply fee).

The Bill Rice Ranch will actively seek the remaining $350 through a scholarship provided by interested donors. If your church or someone you know can help with part or all of this scholarship need, please contact us at 615-893-2767, ext. 135.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do church counselors need to register, and what is the cost for them?

A: Yes, every adult that comes to camp needs to register using the same forms that the campers use. There will be a place to mark that they are coming as an adult. The cost for camp is the same as the cost for the camper.

Q: Who qualifies as a church counselor and how many counselors does our group need?

A: All church counselors must be at least 20 years old or married. One church counselor for every 8 to 10 campers is an ideal ratio. If possible, there should be at least one man and one woman with each church group. Please contact the registrar if this is a problem. All adults will automatically stay with the campers unless staying in a Fast Track room or renting a deluxe room.

Q: Can church counselors bring their young children with them to camp?

A: We encourage church counselors not to bring their young children with them to camp, if at all possible, for two reasons: (1) our youth weeks are not set up to accommodate small children (no nurseries, etc.), and (2) necessary care for the children during the week would keep the church counselor from fully being able to focus their attention on the campers that came with them. With this said, we understand that sometimes this is unavoidable. In this case, the church counselors may rent a family deluxe room. Contact the registrar for prices and to reserve the room.

Q: Can my group add on campers after our week is declared "full"?

A: Yes. Though a week is declared "full" to any new groups, we purposely leave space for any of our existing groups to grow. We never want you to have to turn away campers! Please just be sure to send their registrations in to us as soon as possible so that we can plan appropriately. Any last-minute add-ons (within 1 week of your camp date) should be communicated to the registrar by phone or email, and the registration forms can be turned in upon arrival.

Q: What about camper medication?

A: For the safety of all campers in the cabin, we ask that all medication be turned in to the First Aid station upon arrival. Our medical staff will keep careful records and will ensure that each camper receives his/her medication when needed.

Q: What about campers with special diets?

A: Due to the wide variety of campers that come every week, we cannot accommodate every allergy and diet represented. Campers with special food needs can bring supplemental food with them. If the food needs to be refrigerated, please accompany the camper to the First Aid Station to store it there. Specific menu information will be available upon request.

Q: What is your policy about cell phones?

A: While campers may bring cell phones with them for use on the trip, they will be required to turn them in to you or another church counselor for the duration of the camp week. Their staff counselor will collect any phones that have not already been collected by the church counselor. Any emergency calls can be arranged through the church counselor. Parents may feel free to call the Ranch if a message needs to be conveyed to their children.

Q: Is there a place to do laundry?

A: Yes. Our Wash Tub is available for use by church counselors throughout the week. The Wash Tub is fully equipped with several washers and large dryers. The washers and dryers take quarters, and there is a change machine in the room.

Q: What is the cost for renting linens?

A: A full set of linens (bedding, pillow, towels, washcloths) can be rented from the Linen Room for $7. If a camper needs an individual item, the costs are as follows: sheets ($2), towels ($1), washcloths ($1),pillow/case ($1), blanket ($2).

Local Church Sign Language School

The 8-Day Sign Language School has been a successful tool to train members of local churches in communication with deaf people.  The primary purpose of the school is to help a local church start or strengthen its ministry to the Deaf.  The school begins on a Sunday (typically 4 pm) and ends the following Sunday.  Classes are held throughout the week in the evenings and also Saturday morning.  There is no class the night of the mid-week service.  During the eight days, students are immersed in the language of the Deaf through classes, assignments, and demonstrations totaling nearly thirteen hours of instruction.  In the morning service of the second Sunday, students interpret songs and provide special music in a Sign Language Choir.

Deaf Rally

A Deaf Rally is a Saturday/Sunday event for an existing deaf ministry.  Saturday is a full day of outreach including: activities, games, prizes, food, fellowship, and evangelistic preaching.  Sunday is a day of ministry to the local church.  The purposes of the Deaf Rally are to win people to Christ, provide area contacts for the local church, and to highlight the Bill Rice Ranch.  Hosting an event like the Deaf Rally is an excellent way to draw attention to both the local church’s ministry to the Deaf and the Bill Rice Ranch’s camping opportunities.
